What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) is a serious disease in which breathing starts and stops during sleep due to a blocked airway.  This disease has profound effects on general health and quality of life.  It is estimated that 80-90% of patients with this disease are not diagnosed.  Diagnosis of this disease is made by a physician. There are multiple treatment options for OSA including surgery, CPAP therapy, weight loss and lifestyle changes, pharmacological therapy and oral appliance therapy. CPAP is often the go-to treatment but be sure to learn about alternatives to CPAP.
